Citrus Park Little League Gets New Field
The additional field will allow for more night games.
By next baseball season, Citrus Park Little League players will be able to stay at home a whole lot more.
Hillsborough County is currently working on expanding the soutwest field behind the current little league complex located at 7506 Gunn Highway.
The work, which began earlier this month, is expected to take about six weeks. The park's batting cage is closed during the construction.
The county project cost about $250,000, according to Mark Thornton, director of the county's parks and recreation department.
The field will enable the league to play 50 more games a year, said league president Steve Mayes.
"We had 60 teams on these fields and one field had 16 teams on it," Mayes said. "All the other county facilities have a lot more fields. Upgrading the back is going to help us a lot."
In addition to the expanded field, lights will be added to enable more night games.
"We're really happy with it," Mayes said.
