Farnell Middle Student Arrested: What People Are Saying...
A 13-year-old was arrested at Farnell Middle School on Tuesday after making threats to the school. Here's what Patch readers had to say.
Earlier this week a 13-year-old Farnell Middle School student was arrested after deputies say he fueled rumors of violence on the Westchase school campus located at 13912 Nine Eagles Drive.
The incident began when the teen, whose name has not been released, reported graffiti on his driveway. The graffiti, written in dark magic marker, said: "From Con to FL Farnell UR Next!!"
When deputies responded to the home, the boy told them he had no idea who could have written the threat on his driveway, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested the boy on Tuesday at the school. He told them he wasn’t threatening the school, but was "scared the Connecticut shooter was still alive and could next attack Farnell Middle School," authorities said. The boy told deputies the Newtown, Conn., shootings were the talk of the school and he "had to write it down" to get it out of his head.
We asked our Westchase Patch Facebook readers if they thought the teen should have been arrested. Here's what they had to say:
- Donna Gebhard Jinks said "He's 13...sounds like a little counseling would go farther than jail time. Kids do stupid things."
- Ann Lynn Appel Lora said "Agree, maybe community service instead!"
- Gary Davidson "Yep...put him in the system ...follow the process and see where it ends up, maybe counseling, therapy, or something harsher. You just never know and you have to cover all the bases.
What do you think about the student's arrest? Should he have been arrested for this incident?
