flipflop Bubbly: Holiday Sparkle in a Bottle
Each week "Cheers, Westchase!" helps you kick off your weekend, highlighting either a beer, cocktail or wine you can find right here in the neighborhood.
The "pop" of a champagne bottle is synonymous with the holiday season. There's no debate, champagne is delightful -- but if you're looking for something a little different to please the palate of your wine-lovin friends this season, I have found the perfect (sparkling) stocking stuffer.
I reviewed another flipflop this summer (a Riesling) and I found that it was an outstanding wine at a great price point, which makes it ideal for entertaining. Just in time for the holidays, the winemaker has introduced their new line of Bubbly -- enter flipflop Bubbly Moscato.
A carbonted sweet white wine, fliplop Bubbly Moscato is light-bodied and has flavors of peaches and pears and a lingering finish. It pairs well with smoky cheeses and spicy foods, or it can serve as an after-dinner dessert wine. One reason I like this bottle is that when you're busy grocery shopping for your holiday party, you can find it right in the grocery store aisle.
Where can you find it in Westchase? Sweetbay or Publix.
Price: Under $10 at either location above
Food pairings: Cheese fondue, spicy tuna rolls
Moscato Fun Facts:
- Moscato is made from the Muscat grape, which ranges in color from white to almost black.
- Muscat grape is the world's oldest known variety of grape.
- This the only grape to produce wine with the same aroma as the grape itself.
It's that time of year to start celebrating with friends and family. Raise your glass of Bubbly Moscato and toast to the good times you've had all year. Happy holiday season and Cheers, Westchase!
