West Park Village and South Tampa: Sister Neighborhoods?

Historic South Tampa homes and the newer West Park Village share similar architecture and community feel.

Craftsman bungalows and salt box and center hall colonials are not only found in South Tampa.

In West Park Village, these styles of homes line the streets.  You’ll also find cars parked up and down the streets like in the City of Tampa and retail & eatery establishments within walking distance.  It feels strangely reminiscent of South Tampa.

The six villages that comprise West Park Village in Westchase are different from the rest, the architecture and urban style offer that same feel of South Tampa more commonly found in Hyde Park or New Suburb Beautiful.

South Tampa is steeped in tradition and is a historical delight.  Of course, there’s no replacing original hardwood flooring, the unique trim work, original glazed windows or the occasional claw foot tub that accent a true historic 1900s home.  Nor can it be denied that the gorgeous Tampa Bay lies beyond the Bayshore Boulevard esplanade just blocks from both of these historic and highly sought after neighborhoods. These things can never be replicated or replaced with a newer community.

On the flip side, many South Tampa historic homeowners have spent considerable cash reserves fortifying subfloors, removing knob & tube electrical wiring, updating plumbing, replacing termite ridden or rotting siding and re-configuring or adding on to the more modest 1900s homes.  In addition, renovations must be completed to high historical standards in many areas that are designated historic districts, which can be costly.

West Park Village highlights that wonderful look and feel, but doesn’t come with many of the maintenance challenges.

In West Park Village, the look of wood siding is accomplished with cement hardibacker siding which his more durable and hardwearing in the wet climate. Lattice brick work accents, columns and front porches also create that historic bungalow and colonial facade.

However, the neo-traditional look and urban buzz you notice when you drive through West Park Village ignites the same feeling of community and involvement as Hyde Park.

So, if you are looking for the historic feel without the maintenance and want to maximize your buying power, you’ll be drawn to West Park Village.
