In several places, children set up lemonade and drink stands offering cold beverages and snacks for shoppers to purchase.

The Westchase neighborhood garage sale filled the usually quiet streets with a multitude of cars belonging to bargin hunters. While the traffic through the area was heavy and on some streets became temporarily impassable, everyone worked well together to get traffic moving again within a matter of minutes.

This semi-annual event draws crowds from across the Tampa Bay area as this sale is known among garage sale mavens as a premier event with high quality merchandise including children's items, clothing, sporting goods, electronics and furniture. This year's crowd was not disappointed judging from the number of items loaded in the back of most trucks.

Residents of the neighborhood look forward to the garage sales, not only as a way to make a few extra dollars, but also as a time to walk around visiting with neighbors.

As an additional bonus, the Tampa Youth Mission set up a consession stand featuring a wide variety of foods including hot dogs, turkey legs, pork sandwiches and french fries. Their tent was set up on Linebaugh Avenue next to Fifth Third Bank.

The next Westchase Community garage sale is scheduled for the first Saturday in May.
