Westchase Wine of the Week: Longboat 2009 Sauvignon Blanc

Each Thursday we bring you a Westchase wine proprieter's Pick of the Week. Every selection will be a bottle you can find right here in the neighborhood.

Longboat Sauvignon Blanc

Marlborough, New Zealand

Where can I find it in Westchase? Grille 54

Price: Glass $8.25 / Bottle: $31

Flavor notes/description:  "Like most sauvignon blancs out of New Zealand, Longboat has a distinct grapefruit flavor," says Grille 54 manager Jim Elftmann. "It's very smooth, it's refreshing, and it's floral on the nose."

Suggested food pairings:  "Longboat would pair well with the Eggplant Tier, one of our signature appetizers. It's layered fried eggplant, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and arugula salad, topped with fresh shaved parmesan and a balsamic glaze," Jim said. This can be served either hot or cold. And for the sushi lovers? "Definitely the Nam Bomb, one of the best rolls on our menu. It has snow crab, avocado and asparagus rolled up and topped with fresh tuna, salmon, eel sauce and tempura chips."

Heard it through the grapevine: Tuesday is Sushi Night at Grille 54; see the menu here. Happy Hour specials include $1 off all house wines from 4-6 p.m. daily. The restaurant's private dining area is perfect for wine dinners, company gatherings and holiday parties. "Like" Grille 54 on Facebook to get news on specials and live music at the restaurant.
