Food Truck Serving Turtle, Lion Back on the Road

Not Your Ordinary Food Truck has been on a hiatus of sorts, but its owner says the locally based business is on the road again.

Westchase area residents who have become accustomed to getting a wild game fix from Jeremy Gomez’s Not Your Ordinary Food Truck may have noticed its absence at recent rallies in the Tampa Bay area. There’s no need to fret about missing out on the wild boar, turtle, venison, llama and possum treats the truck is famous for. Gomez, a longtime area resident, says his truck with an unusual menu is back on the road after taking about two months off. While Gomez is no longer behind the wheel, he’s hired a new main chef and a sous-chef to get things rolling again. John Thompson and Lynsey Dissing are taking the driver’s seat, so to say. Boston’s Rolls Out Red Carpet for Wounded Soldiers

The local eatery is playing host to a fundraiser for Operation Helping Hand May 21.

Customers who show up to Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar on Tuesday, May 21 in search of a meal will find the eatery closed for regular business. That doesn’t mean, however, they can’t come in and join the party. In celebration of its seventh anniversary, Boston’s, 9316 Anderson Road, is playing host to its annual charity fundraising night. This year’s beneficiary is Operation Helping Hand, a Tampa-based charity that raises money to help wounded active duty military personnel and their families. Operation Helping Hand is also celebrating its ninth anniversary this month. The local Boston’s has made hosting a May fundraiser for an area charity a tradition since it opened, said Jana Regas, the director of marketing and sales for the eatery…

Live Music, Shopping Part of Third Thursday Event

The West Park Village area will be all a buzz on Thursday, May 16.

A new monthly community event will put West Park Village's merchants front and center. West Park Village's "Third Thursday" event takes place on Thursday, May 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. along Montague Street. The shops in West Park Village like Couture USA and the Liz Murtagh boutique will have extended hours. Stores will hold giveaways and shopping specials. Catch Twenty-Three and Twisted Olive will also have drink and dinner specials. The event will also feature live music. There's no charge to attend. Are you looking forward to Third Thursday? New Irish Bar Opening in Westchase

Irish 31 has plans to open in the neighborhood this summer.

Westchase will have another bar and dining option come summer time. Irish 31 is opening in an anchor location in West Park Village. The pub, which has one other location in South Tampa, is known for its upscale take on the traditional Irish pub fare. Irish 31 will be located in the old Bellissimo restaurant in West Park Village. "Our Westchase restaurant will look almost the same as our location in Hyde Park only slightly larger," owner Jay Mize told the World of Westchase Magazine. "We will also have a great patio." Irish 31's menu items like traditional Shepherd's Pie and fish-n-chips mix pleasantly with fresher options like Woodchuck Cider Shrimp Salad, and sit down dinner items like a 14-ounce ribeye. Food Truck Festival Rolls into Odessa Friday

The Odessa Organic Farmers Market is the site for the monthly event that takes place again May 10.

Westchase area residents who are tired of pulling kitchen duty in the evenings can grab some lawn chairs, load up the car and head to the Odessa Organic Farmers Market on Friday. May 10 is the night for this month’s Odessa Food Truck Festival. The trucks roll in at 5 p.m. while the fun lasts until 9. Rollin Zoinks Truck, Holy Smokes BBQ, 3 Suns Bistro and other popular eateries on wheels all plan to be in attendance, according to the market’s Facebook page. Entertainment is also usually a part of the fun. The market is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 10 and again from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. 'Eat at Joe's' on Friday

After May 10, the event will be held on every second Friday of the month, rain or shine.

Westchase residents who make the daily commute to downtown Tampa don't have to think too hard about what to do at lunchtime on Friday. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on May 10, the first "Eat at Joe's Lunch and Concert Series" kicks off at Joe Chillura Courthouse Square. The square is at the corner of Pierce and Madison streets, and the event will be held on the second Friday of every month after May 10, rain or shine, throughout the summer. The event features King High School graduate Johnny Lowery performing on steel drums. What's Up With The Orange Bikes in Westchase?

Orange bikes have been popping up all over the neighborhood.

If you've noticed brightly painted orange bicycles popping up around Westchase, don't be alarmed. You're not hallucinating. And no, there isn't some secret orange bike coup d'etat about to take over the neighborhood. The orange bikes are a colorful marketing strategy for Orange Theory Fitness, a new fitness concept coming to the neighborhood. The new fitness studio, which specializes in personalized circuit training, is set to open in August. It will be located at 11721 W. Hillsborough Ave. in the Super Target shopping center.
