Beauty & Banter: Get Ready for Summer...5 Ways to Renew You!

Jumpstart You for Summer with these five simple steps.

I don’t know what it is about the changing of the seasons, but it leaves me with a longing for something new. I feel like dusting off the cobwebs and emerging a refreshed and revived human being. My steps are lighter, my mood lifted, and I feel like a whole new me. Here are a few ways I enjoy refreshing myself after the winter months and getting ready for the warmer weather days ahead:

1. A Pop of Color - Adding a bit of color can bring an instant burst of cheer to any wardrobe or makeup routine. Whether it is a citrus orange on my toenails, or a peony pink to my cheeks, or even a hint of neon thrown into my wardrobe; color can be easily added. I like to throw on a bunch of brightly hued bangles to add a bohemian feel while still being on trend, or paint my toenails a vivid and glossy color that adds instant fun to my feet. Whatever colors I choose they just have to be bright and bold, but I have fun with it.

2. Spend Time at the Salon - Invest in a great haircut and even a new color. This season there are so many cuts and colors that there are plenty to choose from. Try a new cut this season or go a shade lighter with highlights. I also find Katy Perry’s bold and brilliant blue hair inspiring. Do I think I could pull that off? Probably not, but hey maybe a few streaks of color here and there won't be too shocking. Leaving the salon with a fresh haircut and color is a sure way to feel rejuvenated.

3. Start a New Workout - I feel like there is nothing more empowering than finishing an intense workout, and one way to jump start any fitness routine is to begin a new program. Beachbody.com has great routines for all fitness levels. TurboFire is for those who like to incorporate dance and movement. Insanity offers cardiovascular intensity for those who want to train like an athlete. Brazilian Butt Lift is for the others who want to train specific areas like the lower half. There are so many options at://www.beachbody.com/ that there is never an excuse for not exercising, so get moving!

4. Indulge in a Really Great Book - Finding the time to curl up with a book can sometimes be impossible, but trust me it is so relaxing and worth it. I have been eyeing a few at the book store and sitting by the pool with a good book in the warmer weather months is definitely a great way to ease stress and feel relaxed. Here are my picks for good reads and maybe a few guilty pleasures too.

Philippa Gregory- “The Lady of the Rivers”

I am a huge fan of Philippa Gregory’s books. I am fascinated by Tudor England and all the history that these books entail. I have not been disappointed yet and look forward to reading her newest release.

I have not read this book, but it seems everywhere I turn I am seeing or hearing someone say that they have read this book or want to read this book. From the reviews and description: is a true guilty pleasure book and it very racy.

5. Spend Some Time with Friends - The only other way I can think of besides a good workout to blow off steam is some much-needed time with my friends. Schedule time with girlfriends for a spa day, shopping and lunch, or a dinner out. I like to surround myself with others who appreciate and understand me, which can help lower stress and also if you have kids like myself will get you out among the rest of the adults.
