Beauty & Banter: Happy Easter: 6 Easter Basket Ideas for Happy Kids

Happy Healthy Kids Without All The Junk

With Easter Sunday Just around the corner I have been brainstorming for ideas about unconventional Easter baskets and trinkets that didn’t require giving my kids cavities. I know… I know…it’s quite difficult at the holidays to not give candy especially when the isles at the grocery store are littered with all things sweet

I came up with a few ideas that have worked for me in the past as well as new ideas as the kids get older. Granted I only have boys so these will be “boyish”, but I will throw a few girlie ideas in there too. In the years past, I would try to give little things in the baskets that they are into as well as give the basket a theme. Too much you think? Well for me it made the most sense to give my son a group of gadgets or themed basket that he can use together or separately if he chooses. It made it fun and memorable.

1. Superheroes-This can be super easy and fun for the kids. One year my son was really into Spiderman so I had the basket mostly Spiderman themed with a plate and cup, bucket and pail, bobble head, Frisbee, and then a few eggs with candy in them. He was three at the time and love the themed basket!

2. Beach/Pool-Another great idea is since we live near the beach and pool make it a summer themed basket: sand toys, the basket could be a big bucket and shovel, sunglasses, new swimsuit or shorts, and flip-flops. Swim toys, water games, floating devices, and maybe even a new towel. Add some sweets and colored eggs and you have a festive yet unconventional basket.

3. Outdoors-This one is two parts: for the active outdoors child filling the basket with activities like jump rope, bubbles and bubble wands, football, sidewalk chalk, baseballs, water balloons, squirt guns, and sun block. Second part is: for the more laid back child the basket could be filled with planting utensils, variety of seeds, pot and potting soil. It is so simple and yet very affordable.

4. Girlie Basket-Depending on the age of the girl there could be a cute makeup caddy that could substitute for a basket. Fill it with nail polish, makeup (or play makeup), fun costume jewelry, a gift certificate for a pedicure, hair ties, clips, and head bands, and add some of her favorite candy and colored eggs and its perfect!

5. Science Geek-My son loves anything to do with science and nature, so I thought this basket or kit would be just up his alley. He loves to study bugs and animals so a bug catching kit, butterfly net complete with magnifying glass and vented air holes of course are super fun for those curious little explorers.

6. Baby Basket-I also have a little boy who is five months old. I thought should I even get him a basket? Would he even notice, but the truth is I would notice if he didn’t have photos to look back on of his very first Easter holiday with us. So I filled a small pail with mostly Sesame Street themed soft book, his very first sippy cup, a book about Peter Cottontail, another about baby Burt and Ernie (adorable), and a rubber ducky to play in the tub with. All of these items cost a dollar at Target! He will not be getting candy, but he can chew on the empty plastic eggs that his older brother will be leaving trailing behind him I am sure.

Do you have any creative Easter Basket ideas you would like to share?

Until Next Time,

Alexis
