Beauty & Banter: Summer Days: 5 Ways to Bring the Fun

Hot Weather Ideas

Father’s Day is now come and gone and summer is officially upon us. That means warm weather, afternoon rain showers, beach days, ever-warmer weather, occasional severe thunderstorm, pool time, and barbeques with friends and family are here to stay! Keeping busy is important especially with kids being out of school, so what is there to do? Here are 5 ways to entertain and inspire fun this summer.

1. Ocean Play-Florida in the summer can be a scorcher, so to stay cool and beat the heat it is imperative to stay near the water. With the beach being so close it is a great way to have fun and keep the kids entertained for hours, not to mention create lasting memories. One of my favorite beaches is Honeymoon Island, because the parking is immense and convenient. Indian Rocks beach is also a place that I Have heard is supposed to be beautiful, and since I haven’t been there before it is on my list this summer. There are no shortages of which sand pad you can choose, just make sure to pack your snacks in a portable cooler, sunblock, and sunglasses!

2. Local Library-When the rainy days take over due to our hurricane season one of my favorite places to go is the local library. Now that my six-year-old son can read he loves nothing more than to browse the rows and rows of books. I think he gets that from me. I guess there are worse things, but it’s quiet and cool, and then afterward we can make our way to Surf Shack for lunch and make an afternoon of it. Hillsborough County libraries also have guests come and tell stories, put on interactive shows, bring animals, and cultural events for kids of all ages. Here is a list of their events.

3. Go Retro-Do you remember hanging out with your friends outside and having a blast when you were a kid? I have such fond memories of just playing in the front yard, eating snacks my mom made, with my best friends. Why not show your kids that having fun doesn’t require spending a lot of money? I thought my son would have a blast with his friends with an old fashion favorite the slip and slide, water balloons, Super Soaker water guns, and handmade snacks that are sure to please the bunch.  Add some popsicles or snow cones and they might actually have some fun!

4. Get Indoors-In Tampa there are no shortages for places to go for fun that allow you to stay inside and have fun.  Take a break from the heat with Laser Tag, jump with trampolines at Airheads, bounce houses, go-carts, roller-skating, bowling, and so much more. A few hours of these activities and the kids will be ready for some down time.

5.  Stay Home-Having a day to stay home and just relax with the family is one of the best ways to have fun and create memories. Make some popcorn, and cuddle up to watch a favorite movies. The Great and Powerful Oz is out on DVD and Netflix has a large variety of movie that can be instantly streamed to your T.V. Sounds like a great afternoon to me.

What do you do to stay busy during the summer months?

Until Next Time,
