Hillsborough County SBIC Provides Business Plan Development Workshop April 12, Winner Receives $1,000 Grant from University Area CDC
TAMPA, Fla. – (April 11, 2014) – The Small Business Information Center (SBIC) of Hillsborough
County is hosting its complimentary, two-part Developing a Business Plan workshop at the University
Area Community Center on Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Attendees not only learn
everything involved in developing a business plan, but also have the chance to receive a $1,000 grant to
launch their entrepreneurial dream.
After the workshop, attendees are encouraged to develop their complete business plan and submit it by
May 1 to be eligible for the $1,000 grant provided by the University Area Community Development
Corporation, Inc.’s (UACDC) INVEST: University Area Microloan Program. This grant marks the launch
of the new program. Hillsborough County residents attending the workshop are eligible to win and grant
funds are designated for business-related expenses only.
The winner of the grant will be decided by the program’s committee, comprised of UACDC board
members and a member of the SBIC. Over the next twelve months, the program will provide $20,000 in
microloans to University Area small businesses, giving them access to capital at interest rates not found
anywhere else.
“The INVEST: University Area Microloan Program is not only lending a hand of support, but
offering a partnership for those who deserve a second chance. Spurring economic activity of local,
small businesses will promote self-sufficiency among residents and provide another anchoring stake
for residents in the community,” said UACDC’s Executive Director & CEO, Dan Jurman. “The Small
Business Information Center has always stood by us, and we know they will be an integral part of
continuing to develop more and better businesses in the University Area as they have been across
Hillsborough County.”
