I have been wanting to visit Winter the Dolphin at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium ever since I read an article in the Tampa Tribune over four years ago. The article told the story of a three year old dolphin named Winter who was rescued in the Atlantic Ocean near Mosquito Lagoon (near Cape Canaveral) in Florida. She was snared by a crab trap line that was tightly wrapped around her and could not escape.

Her story inspired me, especially since my husband and I had just adopted a handicapped puppy from Pet Pals in St. Petersburg. We named her Winka and she was a Jack Russell and Chihuahua mix that stole our heart. She was missing her left back foot, which seemed to be a past accident, however her history was a mystery. We adopted her in 2007, and she blessed our lives for three wonderful years until she passed away recenlty due to a herniated disc that paralyzed her.

Just as Winka instilled hope within my life, Winter's story is sparking hope within millions of people around the world.

Winter's story is now universal and inspiring even more people as her story was featured on the NBC Today Show, CNN, BBC, and hundreds of newspapers around the world. Currently, the movie Dolphin Tale, which is inspired by Winter's true story, is being played nationwide. The movie was released on September 23, 2011 and includes various famous actors such as Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson and Nathan Gamble.

We learned so much from Winka in those three years she graced our life. Not only did she allow us to meet so many other new people around us, but she also inspired us in everything that we did. I always said, "If Winka could do it, so can I!" I felt this same connection when I read about Winter's journey and could see the hope that she is gave to people who heard her story.

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a non-profit organization and a safe haven for many marine life that are in need. They are doing their part to restore and preserve the marine environment through education, research as well as the rescue, rehabilitation and release of marine life.

I highly recommend visiting Clearwater Marine Aquarium to see Winter and hear about her rescue. Her story has brought a lot of inspiration and hope to a lot of people. Why not be a part of it?
