Does Westchase Have an Identity Crisis?

We're curious to see just what you tell people you meet when they ask where you live.

Tampa, Temple Terrace and Plant City have it easy. They have defined boundaries that tell people exactly where they begin and end.

Unincorporated communities like Westchase, however, can have a more difficult time defining their boundaries. After all, while developers called the community Westchase, it grew up in the shadow of the more identifiable Tampa and older neighborhoods like Town 'N Country.

To add to the confusion, the post office calls Westchase "Tampa." And, as is often the case with large developments, areas outside the subdivision’s actual boundaries have begun to take on the community’s name. “Westchase area” has become a descriptive term used by some for businesses and homes that technically fall outside the development’s walls.

So, here’s what we’d like to know from you:

  • What do you consider “Westchase?”
  • And, where do you tell people you live when they ask? Do you say Westchase? Tampa? Or, maybe even Town ‘N Country?
  • Do you use different terms to describe where you live to locals versus out-of-towners? Maybe you tell locals you’re from Westchase and out-of-towners you live in Tampa?
