Community Supports First Westchase Food Truck Rally

Westchase teen Ben Weiner organized the community's first food truck rally, which raised $800 for the American Heart Association.

Westchase's first food truck rally, held on Friday, March 9, was a hit raising $800 for the American Heart Association.

By 6:30pm, more than a hundred hungry folks milled about in the parking lot of the West Park Village Swim and Tennis Center taking advantage of the variety of food options.

Westchase teen Ben Weiner organized the event as part of his service project at as an 11th grade IB student at Robinson High School. Funds raised from the rally will go to the American Heart Association.

At yesterday's rally, Ben said he felt it was a success.

"As long as people enjoy it and people get satisfaction out of helping a charitable organization then it's the thought that counts," he said.

The food truck rally was held in conjunction with the Westchase Community Association's movie in the park. Spider Man 3 was Friday night's selection.

With the success of the first rally, Westchase Senior Community Association Manager Debbie Sainz said the community will likely hold another rally in May.
