Westchase Mailbox Debate Continues: What Do You Think?

If Westchase Voting Members agree in June, homeowners in Castleford and parts of The Bridges will have to purchase uniform black metal mailboxes that have gold flags and numbers.

Discussion of the mailbox plan came up during the May Westchase Community Association meeting and now only requires final voting member approval in June to become official. If it does, homeowners in those areas will have to purchase new mailboxes to meet community requirements, according to the World of Westchase.

While preliminary discussion went in favor of adopting the new rules, some in attendance raised concerns about the costs of maintaining the mailboxes.

Voting member Nancy Sells, for example, said she heard from a resident that Creative Mailboxes was charging $583 to replace her mailbox after it was damaged. That resident told Sells it cost her less than $150 to replace a “better bronze” mailbox when she lived in another community.

Voting member Ruben Collazo, however, pointed out that residents are under no obligation to work with a particular mailbox vendor.

“Westchase does not have an official vendor,” he was quoted as saying.

Residents aren’t obligated to buy from anyone in particular as long as a box meets the community’s requirements.

Last year, The Shires adopted similar rules with mixed reviews from residents.

The voting members meet again June 11.
