Westchase Mailboxes: What You’re Saying

Residents have mixed opinions about a move that would have homeowners in some neighborhoods shelling out hundreds for new mailboxes.

If Westchase Voting Members give their stamp of approval, residents in parts of The Bridges and Castleford will soon have to purchase new mailboxes.

The issue goes before the community association one last time June 11.

Westchase Patch reader Terry wants to know more about the legality of making homeowners purchase new boxes.

That aside, however, Terry said, “Just to be clear, I like the new mailboxes, just not being told I MUST buy one of the new ones within a specific timeframe. Especially when the one I have I was replaced within the last two years when juvenile delinquents decided to use my mailbox and others in the neighborhood for batting practice.”

Not everyone thinks the mailboxes are a good idea.

“These mailboxes are pigs with lipstick,” wrote Monkey Bunny. “So many Westchase homes are becoming eyesores with overgrown landscaping and poor enforcement of basics such as basketball hoops left out and commercial vehicles in driveways.”

“The old, white, many times green with mold mailboxes look dated,” wrote Melina. “If you can't keep your house looking nice and uniform with the rest if the community, then you also have the choice not to live in Westchase. When you drive into Westchase and it's so green and beautifully landscaped it is because it is maintained. I want our community to be pretty now, and 10 years from now. I don't want to live next door to Sanford & Son.”
