YMCA Provides A Wealth Of Activities For Summer Campers

Whether a child is interested in arts and crafts, basketball or becoming a future camp counselor, the Northwest Hillsborough Family YMCA can help.

Idalys Acosta, 10, loves playing football with her friends. Molly Miller, 11, appreciates the variety of different games she gets to play. And Daniel Hill, 13, enjoys helping younger campers with their basketball skills.

These are just a few of the numerous activities that campers can experience at the this summer.

"There is something for everyone here," said childcare program director, Carlos Alvarez.  "We offer a traditional day camp that includes arts and crafts, swimming, outdoor activities and field trips. Our sports camp focuses on different sports each week and we also offer specialty camps that change every week."

"Donald Trump won't be attending and no one will be fired," said Alvarez.

The Counselors in Training (CIT) is a camp that runs all summer long and is designed to help pre-teens learn the skills needed to eventually become camp counselors.

"I like being around the younger kids and help them learn," said CIT camper Kaitlyn Brand, 12.

"For many campers the most popular activity is swimming," said aquatics camp coordinator, Adam Brzezinski.

Aquatics camp is a program that allows campers to spend their entire day in the water learning water safety, playing pool games and practicing competitive swim strokes.
