Waterspout Confirmed in Westchase Area
The National Weather Service's Ruskin office says a waterspout moved through the Westchase, Oldsmar and Dunedin areas early in the evening July 8.
Westchase residents out and about in the early evening hours of July 8 might have noticed a strange cloud formation in the sky just after 6 p.m.
“We have confirmed a waterspout,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Rodney Wynn of the cloud that was captured on film by Westchase Patch reader Casey Craig. The cloud was seen in the Westchase, Oldsmar and Dunedin areas, Wynn added.
Westchase Patch Field Editor Nicole Hutcheson was shopping in the Publix plaza when she, too, spotted the cloud. Hutcheson reports the funnel turned a lot of heads.

Wynn confirmed that.
“We’ve had a lot of calls,” he said about the cloud. No damage has been reported as of yet, he added.
