Fitness Options Expand at Northwest and West Park Village YMCA Locations

The popular Les Mills Body Pump class is now being offered at Westchase-area YMCA locations.

Fitness lovers will be able to get their fix in a new way starting this week at the Northwest and West Park Village YMCAs.

Les Mills Body Pump, a weight-based group-fitness program, is now a part of the fitness class lineup at the those Y locations.

"It brings an element of choreography and consistence that we were looking for," said Maureen Chiodini, associate vice president of membership and programs for Tampa Metropolitan YMCA. "It’s some intensity and variety that we really appreciate."

Les Mills is an international fitness company that offers 10 different exercise programs. Instructors must be trained and certified to offer the programs.

Body Pump is the beginner class that Les Mill recommends, Chiodini said.

In the one-hour long class all participants have their own set of weights.

"It's a lot of strength training," Chiodini said. "It's choreographed so its rhythmical. You’re getting cardio and strength."

On Saturday the Body Pump kickoff class was held at the Northwest YMCA. The class was packed with about 20 people.

As the demand grows the YMCA locations will add more Les Mill classes, Chiodini said.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity to take your fitness level up a notch, it’s a lot of fun. The music is fantastic the choreography is consistent so it builds on itself," she said.

Both the Northwest and West Park Village YMCA will offer several Body Pump classes per week as part of their Group Fitness line-up. Below are the times you can find Body Pump at your YMCA location:

Unfortunately all of the class times aren't convenient for working people.

I see your point M.B. I would imagine if the demand grows for after 6 classes, they'll add some.
