Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and Win Prizes

Hillsborough County libraries are holding contest for art and poetry inspired by Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative is celebrating Hispanic heritage with three popular annual contests. Contest entries are being accepted through September 30, and winners will be announced and prizes will be given at the Our Hispanic Heritage Awards Ceremony at the Town 'N Country Regional Public Library, 7606 Paula Drive, Suite 120, in Tampa on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. 

The Contest Are:

  •  Students in grades K-5 may enter the Our Hispanic Heritage Bookmark Contest.

1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded in both the grades K-2 group and the grades 3-5 group. 1st Place prize is a $100 U.S. Savings Bond and 100 professionally printed bookmarks. 2nd Place prize is a $50 U.S. Savings Bond and 100 professionally printed bookmarks.

  •  Students in grades 6-12 may enter the Our Hispanic Heritage Poster Contest.

1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded in both the grades 6-8 group and the grades 9-12 group. 1st Place prize is a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card and 10 professionally printed posters. 2nd Place prize is a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card and 5 professionally printed posters.

  •  Adults age 18 and older may enter the Our Hispanic Heritage Poetry Contest

Poems must be written in Spanish and must be original work. The contest is limited to amateur poets. 1st Place prize is $200. 2nd Place prize is $100. 3rd Place prize is $50.

All three contests are sponsored by the Ada T. Payne Friends of the Urban Libraries, Friends of the New Tampa Regional Library, Friends of the Town ‘N Country Regional Library, and Friends of the SouthShore Regional Library.
