A group gathers at World of Beer for some bean bag-tossing fun.

For Midwest natives who grew up with cornhole boards in their backyards, the creation of a cornhole league was music to their ears.

The latest in the region wide games organized by Tampa Bay Club Sport . World of Beer in Westchase is home to the club's new cornhole league.

“Many patrons have mentioned that they like cornhole, so we approached TBCS with the idea of hosting a cornhole league," said Nicole Saj, Marketing Director of WOB Westchase. "Since Monday night is SIN (Service Industry Night), we thought it would be a great night for a league."

All employees in the service industry (restaurant, hotel, etc.) receive half off all draft beers from 9pm until close on Monday night's at WOB.

Corn hole is a game where corn-filled bean bags are tossed at a board with a hole in it. Points are scored by keeping a bean bag on the board, or by tossing a bean bag in the hole. The game originated in Germany, and domestically, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

West Park Village resident Mike Berglund is pleased with the "friendly competition" the league provides.

"It means getting out on a Monday night, making new friends, and having some beers," said Jeff Thibault, also of West Park Village.

All skill levels are welcomed. Dominic Palazzolo is the official score keeper and does an excellent job of keeping score and keeping the game atmosphere fun and energetic.

Each round is 45 minutes. Statistics are kept on every person. Every throw is counted and goes towards the statistics, said Ian Elston, Marketing Director of TBCS, and long-time cornhole player.

Sound like fun? The league is still looking for players. Games will run through October 3, with play-offs to follow.

TBCS organizes sport leagues, happy hours, and various other events for active, young professionals. They offer many other sports leagues, such as soccer and bowling.
