Westchase Community Association Budget Approved; Fall Movie in the Park Series Announced

Westchase residents can expect a $320 monthly assessment bill.

The Westchase Community Association approved their 2012 budget at Thursday night's meeting. Effective immediately, Westchase residents can expect a $320 monthly assessment bill.

Since the $1.39 million budget and expenses have remained relatively steady, the board was able to keep this figure comparable to Westchase Homeowners Association’s 2011 fees.

More discussion occurred at last night’s meeting, regarding the tennis building for the C-courts at Countryway Boulevard’s tennis center.

Westchase resident Don Costello would like the board to “get rid of the tennis building and lower the monthly assessment bill by $12.”

However, the majority of the board indicated that a new tennis facility would prove beneficial to the Westchase community.

In other news from the meeting, a vacant property (10421 Green Hedges) was discussed. The home has been since July 2009 and has become an issue for residents.

“I have seen it deteriorate for the past two years,” said Tom Kaminsky, who lives in the neighborhood. He described its condition as “unkempt with broken windows.”

“A tree from that property is threatening to fall on my house,” said neighbor Amy Daner. “What are the plans to take care of it?”

Although the property has been vacant for more two years, it is still under the owner’s name so it does not fall under the responsibility of the WCA.

But the board assured Kaminsky and Daner that they will promptly work on a resolution for this issue.

Other important notes from last night's meeting include:

  • A resident’s email proposed a No Parking rule for the area of Bentley near the driveway of Westchase Elementary School. Street parking in this area causes constant congestion.
  • Online registration and payment options will be available on WCA’s website, within the next two months.
  • WCA is still having trouble with the hydraulic locking mechanism for their marquee signs.
  • A new Master Swim Coach was recently hired, and will also serve as a Substitute Lifeguard.
  • October 14 marks the premiere of the fall season "Movie in the Park" series, and will feature the hit movie "Cars."
  • A Service Recognition Award was presented to Carlos Quiros, who has been involved with WCA for over twenty years.
