Corey Knows Best: A Christmas Behavior Enforcer

Looking for something to get your kids in the spirit and maybe even help them be a little nicer? I have the answer.

No. I don't start listening to holiday music after Halloween. I have not even considered decorating (but rest assured I will just as soon as Thanksgiving leftovers are gone). My shopping lists haven't been made. But. We did welcome a new family member over the weekend.

His name is Elfie. Elfie the Elf.

I don't know who invented Elf on a Shelf and I don't care.  It's genius.  Elfie came with a book explaining how he works.  Basically he watches your kids every day between now and Christmas.  At nighttime (thanks to his super elf magic and speed) he flies up to the North Pole to report to Santa on whether your kids have been naughty or nice. Then, every morning Elfie shows up in a different spot.  Kids can't touch him cause he's magic.  See?  Brilliant.

For a few reasons.

First. It's a great way to get your kids to behave. No, I am not suggesting that persuading your children to be good because Santa is coming to bring presents is a stellar parenting technique.  Oh wait.  I guess I am.  Who can't use a little extra 'oomph' to their discipline?  I sure can.  So if I can't make you sit and eat your dinner, maybe Elfie can.  I don't care who makes you behave, as long as you behave.

Second.  It's fun.  Like really fun.  Hiding Eflie every night and then letting the kids search for him in the morning is fun!  Pinterest also has terrific ideas of what to do with Elfie.  Make a 'flour angel' on the counter.  For example.

Finally.  Spirit.  I know the real reason for the season.  But Santa, he's real because he lives through our children.  And what's more magical for a kid than having Santa's helper around for a couple months?

So. Yes, we got him out early.  And we're gonna make the most of this extra behavior boost, magic of the season maker.  BTW, I waited too long last year, what with having a baby and all, and missed this train.  So don't wait too long.  I'm not Elfie's only fan.

Also.  You don't have to name your Elf, Elfie.  The kids name it.  And Elfie we thought was better than other suggestions that came out of our 3 year old's mouth.

Also.  No one pays me for anything.  Just sharing some early Christmas fun, from my house to yours!

Merry Merry!
