Weight loss and Acupuncture. Learn the top reasons why acupuncture may help you on your weight loss journey.

It's that time of year when everyone's talking about the number one resolution, weight loss, so let's talk about it. I get random calls from strangers every week asking if acupuncture will help you to lose weight. The answer is yes & no...it definitely helps but I don't mean to burst your bubble but there is no magic herb, pill or "fat gland" acupoint that will make you lose 30 lbs in a week. BUT...I think acupuncture is a great option, here's why.

First, medical "solutions" like pills and surgery do not address the root problem of why you are overweight to begin with. The surgeries and the pills have a slew of side effects, including death. Are you really "dying" to lose weight? And the question becomes what happens when you leave surgery or you stop taking the pills. Research shows you return to your former self if you do not address the root cause. We can help you with the root cause and fix it.

Second, how many people eat out of depression, boredom, grief or stress? I will tell you that most people that are overweight do. What makes this worse is that during those times of emotionally eating, you make the worst possible food choices. We can help to address the emotional side of eating.

Third, many people come into the Center and say I know I need to exercise, but my back hurts or my knee or "replace your ailment here" so they just can't get moving. Acupuncture can definitely help you resolve your pain issues so you can get off of the couch and get moving.

Fourth, don't forget that stress and sleep definitely impact your ability to lose weight. If your stress hormones are chronically high, besides other health problems, you will have a really hard time losing weight. Same goes for sleep deprivation. Without sleep, you tend to eat more calories throughout the day (approx 300 calories more), your body holds on to fat, and you are less likely to stick to a fitness routine if you are always exhausted. Acupuncture is an excellent choice to help improve sleep and decrease and relieve stress.

Lastly, we are here to motivate you and guide your diet decisions if you let us. Ultimately, it is up to you to commit, love and respect yourself, make the goals, schedule your plan and stick to it.

Oh, and I almost forgot! I have many places for you to work out at around town. I have even had patients work out with me at the studio. If you aren't "ready" to work out in a group setting (which I highly recommend for a variety of reasons) then I can put the most basic program together for you to get a head start on your fitness goals at home.
