Snake Found On Elementary School Grounds

The snake was found by a child's parent Monday morning.

A Deer Park Elementary school parent found what he's identified as a "Cottonmouth" snake in the pickup lane near the cafeteria at Deer Park Elementary on Monday. Marcia Rodgers Kiltz posted the information in a Deer Park Elemenary Families Facebook Group page. Her husband found the snake.

"He caught it and is taking it to the ranger station tomorrow but wanted to make sure people knew that this poisonous snake was caught on school grounds so be safe," Klitz said in the message.

Officials at Deer Park Elementary said on Tuesday that they were not aware the snake had been found.

While Cottonmouths are not necessarily aggressive, they are venomous and should be avoided when encountered, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
