There aren’t many programs in today’s world that help real people with real needs in real time.

Enter Every Cent Counts, an outreach program of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.

The web-based program, formally launched in May, allows individuals to donate directly to those in need.

Typically, the needs are simple. From a bus pass for a child to receive the counseling they need to basic toiletries for a woman and children who escaped an abusive relationship or grocery items for a senior citizen who can't leave their home.  Every Cent Counts offers a way for the public to make an impact right here in Tampa Bay with a donation that is as small as the cost of a cup of coffee.

Every need has been vetted and verified by the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, which provides counseling, forensic examinations and suicide prevention services, so donors can be sure that every cent truly does count.

“One-hundred percent of a contributor's dollar goes to families in need,” said David Braughton, Crisis Center president and CEO who initiated the Every Cent Counts program.  “Donors have the power to decide who to help and how much to give.  The stories and needs are genuine, and your contribution will make a world of difference in their lives."

There are currently over 30 unfulfilled needs on the Every Cent Counts website,  www.everycentcounts.org.  Presently, 16 needs have been fulfilled totaling over $6,000.

With the after-effects of still readily apparent in the Tampa Bay area, the Every Cent Counts program may be a potential resource for people who need short-term assistance.
