Linebaugh Avenue And Gunn Highway Intersection Improvements Halted

The County will not move forward with improvements to the heavily traveled intersection.

Motorist who frequent the Gunn Highway and Linebaugh Avenue intersection may have rejoiced when news of improvements to the intersection were

But it seems they'll have to wait a little longer before they do a full out happy- dance.

That's because improvements to the intersection have been put on the back burner for now. Those road improvements will not be funded this year per a Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners decision earlier this month.

"Because of a county funding shortfall we are not going to be doing the improvements to Gunn and Linebaugh at this time," said Hillsborough County Real Estate Department Director Anthony Haynes.

The intersection had been among the $179 million in proposed capital improvement projects for the county.

While the county decided not to fund the whole Gunn Highway and Linebaugh Avenue intersection project, they did go forward with purchasing a slither of land that will be needed if and when the project moves forward.

The land purchase totals $75,000 for 1,962 square feet along the south west corner of Gunn Highway and Linebaugh Avenue, said Eric Watkins of Hillsborough County's real estate services department.
