Public Meeting: Jackson Springs Gym Expansion

A public meeting will be held on April 9 to discuss the expansion of the recreation center.

Since 2002, the Jackson Springs Recreation Center has provided a place for Hillsborough residents to play, meet and exercise.

Now county officials are proposing an expansion of the center, located at 8620 Jackson Springs Road in the Town 'N Country area.

Hillsborough County will conduct a public meeting on Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. to receive public comment and discuss plans to expand the recreation center. The meeting will be held at the Jackson Springs Park Gymnasium.

Details of just what the expansion would entail are not clear at this point.

"This is an initial meeting to get the input from the public to see what they want," said Kemley Green, county parks and recreation spokeswoman.

Green was able to say expansion would add between 4,000 and 6,000 square feet to the facility, but details haven't been finalized yet pending input received during Tuesday's meeting.

About $1.8 million has been set aside for the project.
