Saturday Morning Market Leaves Westchase

The once-a-month market will set up shop in Carrollwood.

Since October, the monthly Fresh Market at Westchase has taken up residence on the grassy lawn near Maloney's Irish Pub, providing fresh produce, a variety of vendors and activities for the community.

But those are just memories now.

The market will be moving the fun from Westchase to Carrollwood starting in May, according to this Tampa Tribune article.

Apparently the move was necessitated by safety, according to market organizers. Power lines located near the Westchase market location were making it dangerous for certain vendors. Those using tents with metal were experiencing shocks when the grass was wet, Greg Barnhill, director of operations for the market, told the Tribune.

The grassroots company Tampa Bay Markets organized the Westchase market. The group also operates markets in Seminole Heights, Hyde Park and at the Shops at Wiregrass mall.

The Carrollwood market will be called the North Tampa Market and will take place every second Saturday of the month at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road.

The next market date is Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
