Update on Gracie the Missing Dog

The Italian greyhound went missing earlier this week in Westchase.

The search for Gracie, a 6-year-old Italian greyhound, began Tuesday, April 2, throughout Westchase.

The dog's owner, Christa Culligan, looked everywhere and asked others to help her find her beloved dog.

Culligan's search came to a sad end Friday, April 5, when she received a call from someone she thinks was with The Shires' homeowners association. That person told her Gracie had been hit by a car near Countryway Boulevard.

People thought they had spotted Gracie in the Westchase neighborhood near Countryway Boulevard since she went missing, Culligan said. Of course, Culligan had hoped for a better end to the search.

Through tears, Culligan said she is thankful for the phone calls from volunteers trying to find Gracie.

"The calls and messages kept coming," she said.

Now, she hopes folks can understand that it is tough for her to talk about Gracie now.

It was nice to see how willing friends and neighbors were to help in the search for Gracie, Culligan said.
