Veterans Expressway Construction: What to Expect this Week

Find out what expressway motorists need to know for the upcoming week, starting April 28.

As work on widening the Veterans Expressway continues, Florida’s Turnpike is warning Westchase drivers to be aware of some upcoming construction that might impact commutes.

Here’s what the state agency says motorists can expect starting Sunday, April 28:

Overhead Sign Maintenance

“Crews will be performing maintenance on overhead dynamic message signs throughout the Turnpike system,” a media release from the agency says. “Motorists may expect either an outside, single lane closure lasting about an hour at the following locations:”

  • 9 p.m.-3 a.m., May 7-8, northbound at Milepost 12
  • 9 p.m.-3 a.m., May 7-8, southbound at Milepost 20
  • 9 p.m.-3 a.m., May 7-8, northbound at Milepost 26
  • 9 p.m.-3 a.m., May 7-8, northbound at Milepost 36
  • 9 p.m.-3 a.m., May 7-8, southbound at Milepost 38
  • 9 p.m.-3 a.m., May 7-8, northbound at Milepost 43

Linebaugh Avenue to Gunn Highway Construction

Florida’s Turnpike says motorists can expect the following to take place in the coming week as the road widening continues:

  • Daytime works will include clearing and grubbing the right-of-way
  • Installation of erosion control

Waters Avenue to Linebaugh Avenue

Single lane closures overnight, both north- and southbound from Henderson Road to south of Linebaugh:

  • Temporary asphalt will be placed for upcoming traffic pattern shift
  • Temporary barrier walls will be installed north- and southbound
  • Daytime work includes clearing and grubbing the right-of-way
  • There are no daytime closures planned

Anderson Road Ramps 

During the week of May 6, motorists should be mindful of a “major traffic pattern change is scheduled to occur at the Anderson Road ramps and Anderson mainline toll plaza,” the release says. “The southbound on-ramp and northbound off-ramp at Anderson Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Northbound through traffic at the plaza should be alert for the elimination of the far left mixed-use (Cash/SunPass) lane that is being converted to a SunPass-only lane through this phase of construction.”
