Veterans Expressway Lane, Ramp Closings Coming

Find out what to expect during the upcoming week as the $386 million widening project continues.

Westchase motorists who use the Veterans Expressway to get around might want to take note: a few changes are coming in the week ahead, May 19-25.

According to Florida’s Turnpike, motorists should be alert for possible closings on such adjoining roadways as Waters Avenue, Anderson Road, Linebaugh Avenue and Henderson Road.

The expressway project involves 11 miles of the roadway and includes transforming the road from four to eight lanes to alleviate congestion, Turnpike officials say.

Motorists can expect to see:

  • Clearing continue in the median and right of ways
  • Installation of erosion control divices
  • Temporary widening and guardrail removal in the medians on the southbound roadway. This will involve some overnight, inside lane closures.
  • Inside lane closures both north- and southbound
  •  The bridge equipment has been put into place in the Rocky Creek area.
  • Installation of sheet and test piles is expected to continue this week.

Motorists should also be prepared for some upcoming work on Linebaugh Avenue. Crews are expected to start setting a barrier wall near the interchange.

Waters to Linebaugh

Motorists can expect to see:

  • Single lane closures both north- and southbound north of the Anderson mainline to south of the Linebaugh ramps. These closures are scheduled for nighttime hours.
  • The closing of the Anderson Road northbound off ramp and southbound on ramp starts Sunday night, May 19. Drivers are being asked to use the Waters on ramp and the Linebaugh off ramp.
  • All northbound motorists will be diverted to the far right northbound lane during the nighttime hours May 19 and May 20. This is so a temporary barrier can be installed around the former Anderson Road ramps.
  • Clearing and grubbing in the right of ways will continue during daytime hours.
