YMCA Even Promotes Healthy Kids

The event draws kids from all over the Bay area and takes place Saturday, April 27 at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in downtown Tampa.

In a couple weeks, kids from across the bay will come together for the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA's Healthy Kids Day, a free event community in downtown Tampa.

Healthy Kids Day is an initiative launched by the YMCA to get, and keep kids moving. The Tampa Y’s Healthy Kids Day takes place on Saturday, April 27 at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley Drive, from 10 a.m. to 1p.m.

After the event, 1,900 YMCA locations across the country will continue the mission of Healthy Kids Day during the summer. At the Northwest Hillsborough YMCA a bevy of summer camp options are available to keep kids active during that critical out-of-school time.

"At the Tampa Y, we know parents struggle to keep their kids physically and intellectually active every day," said Lalita Llerena, communications director for the Tampa Y in a press release. "We want to help ensure fewer kids are at risk of childhood obesity and more kids excel in school."

During the April 27 event, local mascots will compete against each other in a variety of sports. Mascots expected to attend include the Tampa Bay Rays' Raymond, Tampa Bay Lightning's Thunderbug, Tampa Yankees' Blue and the Clearwater Threshers' Phin.
