Last week as I was getting my hair done, my wonderful hair dresser, Tito, and I were cracking up as I read the Cosmopolitan magazine quiz. The quiz was something about first dates and some of the answer choices were very comical. We both decided that we are probably too old now to be able to relate to Cosmopolitan quizzes.
Nonetheless, I was inspired. Everyone loves a good quiz, right? So, I thought I would take a shot at creating my own quiz…on a topic I am better able to relate to.
How Bad Do You Want To Move?
1) When you see a For Sale sign go up in your neighborhood, do you…
a) Go immediately to your computer, log on to Realtor.com and read the entire description comparing every feature to your current home.
b) Say, “I hope we get great new neighbors.”
c) While on a walk, ask another neighbor how much the house is listed for.
2) You are driving down Linebaugh Avenue on a Sunday at 1:00 and you see several Open House signs, do you…
a) Keep driving down Linebaugh, you have things to do.
b) Follow the signs and drive by the Open House, but stay in your car.
c) Go to each Open House and take lots of notes.
3) You look at your latest bank statement and are so proud of how much you have been able to save, do you…
a) Call your contractor; it’s time for a kitchen remodel!
b) Call a mortgage lender; it’s time for a pre-approval letter!
c) Smile and keep saving, you have big things in mind for the future!
4) On your “Favorites” tab you have saved…
a) Realtor.com, trulia, zillow, floridamoves.com, and the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser
b) Realtor.com, it’s fun to look sometimes
5) You look around your current house and think…
a) Wow, I am so glad this is where I live.
b) I wish I had one more bedroom.
c) Trying to fit everything in this house is like one of Cinderella’s stepsisters trying to fit her big foot into the glass slipper—it just doesn’t fit!
6) A friend is so excited because she is about to buy her first home, do you…
a) Tell her you would be happy to give your opinion on her top 3 choices.
b) Give her the name of a mover someone in your office recommended.
c) Send her all of the research you have compiled on home styles, prices, neighborhoods and school zones.
How To Score
1) a. 3, b. 1, c. 2
2) a. 1, b. 2, c. 3
3) a. 1, b. 3, c. 2
4) a. 3, b. 2, c. 1
5) a. 1, b. 2, c. 3
6) a. 2, b. 1, c. 3
Score Between 6-9: You are happy exactly where you are. Moving is not currently on your radar. If you have some spare money, you want to use it to make improvements to current home, not save for a new one. My advice: Enjoy your house and be happy in your contentment!
Score Between 10-14: You can see yourself moving sometime in the future, perhaps in the next 1-3 years. You like to keep one eye on the housing market to keep track of the housing values. You like your current home, but you have specific ideas for what changes you want in your next home. My advice: Check your credit and make sure everything is accurate. If your credit score is low, get advice on how to improve it. Start saving—you want to make sure you have 20% to put down on the next house. Talk to people and ask them what they love about their neighborhood.
Score Between 15-18: You really want to move! The question then becomes: are you qualified? It is time to call a Realtor and a mortgage lender. The mortgage lender will be able to go over all of your financing options and help you figure out what you can comfortably afford. Your Realtor will be able to keep you up to date on all the homes that come and go on the market. My advice: Call me, I would be happy to help you!
