Melanie Atkinson: Spotlight on Westwood Lakes

Discover Westwood Lakes and all of its natural beauty!

On Nine Eagles Drive, past and Hampton Chase, there is a wall of native Florida vegetation that hides the homes of Westwood Lakes from the road.

This natural barrier is an appropriate fit for a neighborhood that clearly embraces the local flora and fauna that surrounds its homes.

On the Home Page of www.westwoodlakes.org, visitors are welcomed by the motto, “Where nature and neighbors co-exist.” Driving down the twisty main road, Westwood Lakes Blvd, it is easy to see that this motto is true. Lush landscaping lines the road and a deer crossing sign at the entrance warns drivers to keep an eye out for these furry cohabitants.

At any given time of the day, you will see residents strolling, biking or running down the wide, black sidewalk that lines Westwood Lakes Blvd.  Residents also enjoy the park area with 4 basketball courts, playground, pavilion, and sports fields.

The names of the 7 different Villages that make up Westwood Lakes are also a nod to local nature:  Sawgrass, Deer Run, Osprey Cove, Heron Cove, Egret Pointe, Cypress Glen, and Palmetto Place.  Within these 7 Villages, 655 homes were constructed from 1998-2002.  Builders included Westfield Homes, M/I Homes, American Heritage, and Premier.  Homes range in size from just above 1,300 square feet to over 3,400 square feet.

The Maynard Family bought their 2800 square foot home on Coral Berry Drive in July of 2009.  Their home backs up to one of the 27 ponds & lakes within Westwood Lakes.  I talked to Bevin Maynard a few days ago and she wanted to tell me why she loved where she lived.  The one topic she talked about more than anything was the nature that surrounds their home.  She told me that they see deer and rabbits almost every night.  They also see turkeys and other amazing birds.  Bevin also talked about the fact that residents take pride in their yards and keep the community looking great.  Her kids love that they have a floorplan that includes an upstairs playroom.  Two years after moving in, the Maynard family can’t imagine living anywhere else.

With so many beautiful neighborhoods to choose from in this area, Westwood Lakes is just one to consider.  As of today, there are 14 homes listed on the MLS in Westwood Lakes ranging in price from $215,000-$464,900.  If you would like any further information on this or any other Westchase area neighborhood, please do not hesitate to call me.  I’m sure the wildlife would be happy to greet some new neighbors.

Do you love where you live?  Please let me know why you love your neighborhood, street or home and I will be happy to feature you in a future blog.
