Welcome to the WestchasePatch Social Media Blog!
The first in a series of interesting thoughts and observations about social media and Westchase.
Last week Nicole from Westchase Patch reached out to me and said that they were looking for a handful of bloggers to provide new voices to the Patch site.
She specifically wanted me to write about social media. I jumped at the chance to be able to have a new place to share my thoughts about new and existing trends in the social media ecosystem.
If you know me at all, chances are good that you know I’m a big fan of social media. As a freshman at the University of Florida, I spent a lot of time exploring internet services such IRC, MUDs and Usenet newsgroups. I was interested in how these new technologies can cause relationships and communities to largely independent of geography.

Later I became enamored with blogs and blogging. While I had never thought of myself as a writer, I was surprised to find out that it was fun. I’ve maintained a few personal blogs over the years and now regularly blog at Peripheral Vision, a group whose mission it is to educate eye doctors about social media, the Foursquare Day Blog to spread the word of goings-on for April 16, as well as the blog for the business I own, Bright Eyes News.
What I envision for this new Patch blog is a series of ruminations about social media, especially as it applies to Westchase businesses and residents. I talk to people every day that use social media either in their personal or business life and I get excited about it. I’d love to highlight some Westchase businesses and activties that do a great job implementing social media. I also will be sharing my thoughts on the ever-changing options of web and mobile apps and discussing what I think they can offer us.

I look forward to get questions from readers about social media and how to get involved. I know it can be a little daunting at first, so if I can help in any way, please let me know at Doc@BrigthtEyesTampa.com.
Cheers!
