Car Burglaries Spike in Westchase Area

Several car thefts have been reported in the area recently.

Lock your doors and be sure to conceal items if you must leave them in the car while shopping.

Those were some of the common sense tips Hillsborough County Deputy Phil Acaba, Westchase's community resource deputy, shared for preventing theft in the area.

Between Nov. 15-19, there were four incidents of theft from vehicles in and near the Westchase area. he incidents occured at the following addresses:

  • 10500 block of Weybridge Drive
  • 10300 Lightner Bridge Drive
  • 11600 block of Westchase Golf Drive
  • 7900 block of Gunn Highway

"It's the holiday season and when holiday season comes property crimes in the area go up," Acaba said. "People have to use basic crime prevention techniques."

Since Black Friday, Acaba said patrolling of the Westfield Citrus Park mall has been increased. Residents can also help keep crime down in the area by taking simple actions.

If you see suspicious people or loiterers in retail areas or your neighborhood, call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number at 813-247-8200 and ask for the dispatcher.

"The more eyes watching the bad guys the more it helps us all out," Acaba said.
