A 48-year-old Tampa woman is in critical
condition following a rear-end collision on Sheldon Road early Tuesday morning.
The accident happened just before 8 a.m. Aug. 27 as Caridad Chamizo was heading south on Sheldon near Wood Lake Boulevard in a 2001 Ford Explorer, according to an email from Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Det. Larry McKinnon. Chamizo’s Explorer was hit in the rear by a 2001 Toyota Camry driven by Luis Arroyo, 22, also of Tampa.
“Chamizo was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and is in critical condition,” McKinnon wrote in the email.
Arroyo submitted to a voluntary blood draw on the scene, but McKinnon said alcohol isn’t believed to be a factor in the crash.
The accident closed southbound lanes of Sheldon Road at Waters Avenue for several hours Tuesday morning.
No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.
