DUI Patrols Heading Westchase's Way

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's DUI enforcement team plans to pay a few visits to the area in the coming week.

While Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies are always on the lookout for motorists who break the law on Westchase area roads, the DUI enforcement team adds extra manpower to that effort from time to time.

Drivers wondering just where that unit will be in the coming days will find them in various parts of the county, including the Westchase area. Here’s the unit’s schedule for the weekend and the week ahead, according to the sheriff's office's website:

  • Thursday, Aug. 8 – Saturation patrol: These patrols are “where the entire 3D DUI squad targets a designated district to enforce all traffic laws in an attempt to deter DUI's and traffic crashes,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Cristal Bermudez Nunez said. Thursday’s patrols are scheduled for District’s II (eastern Hillsborough) and III (northwest Hillsborough).
  • Wednesday, Aug. 14 – Heightened patrol: This means the “entire squad is available within the county,” she said. The patrols will take place all over the county.
  • Thursday, Aug. 15 – A low-man checkpoint is scheduled for District I, which includes portions of the Carrollwood area. This kind of checkpoint doesn’t involve on-scene jail transportation or blood-alcohol testing. The targeted location is along Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.

Patrols take place in the late night and early morning hours.
