Tampa Woman Dies After Veterans Expressway Crash

The one-car crash happened in the late morning hours of Aug. 2.

A 28-year-old Tampa woman died overnight at St. Joseph’s Hospital following a Friday morning crash on the Veterans Expressway, according to an update from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Brittney Lynn Fulford of Tampa was driving northbound on the Expressway, about a half-mile south of Waters Avenue, around 10:50 a.m. Aug. 2 when she lost control of her Toyota 4 Runner for “unknown reasons,” Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Gaskins wrote in an email. Fulford’s vehicle left the road, hit a guardrail, overturned and the struck a light pole.

A highway patrol media release said the crash was not alcohol-related and that Fulford was wearing a seatbelt. She was taken to St. Joseph’s where she later died Friday night.
