Too Big To Steal? Apparently Not

The hunt is on for a stolen semi-truck and crane that were taken recently from a Westchase area business.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies are hoping Westchase area residents might have seen two stolen items they’re currently on the hunt for.

Definitely bigger than a bread box, the items are described as a 2006 Sterling truck with a Terex crane attached. The truck and crane were taken sometime between 7 p.m. July 19 and 9:30 a.m. July 20 from Superior Crane and Rigging, 5410 W. Linebaugh Ave.

The sheriff’s office says the thieves got into the truck, fired it up and fled the business “undetected.”

With no surveillance video to help them identify possible suspects, the sheriff’s office is turning to area residents for help. They’re asking folks to keep their eyes out for the semi and/or the crane and to call in any tips.

“That one’s kind of a short in the dark,” said Cristal Bermudez Nunez, sheriff’s office spokeswoman. “Hopefully, someone will see the semi or the crane.”

Bermudez Nunez said the truck in question has blue lettering on its doors that say Superior Crane and Rigging and Energy Solutions.

“(It’s) too big too hide,” she added.

Deputies are unsure at this time what the thieves might have in mind for the stolen goods. Bermudez Nunez said they don’t have concerns about terrorism.
