Troopers Announce Checkpoints, Urge Safety This July 4

The Florida Highway Patrol will be out and about throughout the Independence Day season.

Planning on hitting the road for some Fourth of July fun?

Take care behind the wheel. The Florida Highway Patrol intends to be out in force, looking for motorists who might compromise the safety of others.

“Motorists are reminded to use caution during their travels by obeying posted speed limits, increasing their following distances to other vehicles, and insure their vehicles are in proper maintenance for long range trips and vacations,” said highway patrol spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins. They should also “Report aggressive and drunk drivers by calling *FHP (*347). Always wear your seat belts and designate a sober driver or make alternate travel plans to avoid mixing alcohol and driving.”

FHP has announced its driver’s license and safety checkpoints for July. Checkpoints are random, daytime operations, Gaskins said. They are meant to help keep vehicles with defective equipment off Florida's roads.

In the Westchase area they are (put in your local roads): South Mobley Highway, Lutz Lake Fern Road, Wilsky Avenue and Linebaugh Avenue.

Be safe!
