What Happens to Westchase Mail Destroyed in I-75 Crash?

The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that one of the trucks involved in the crash that has closed Interstate 75 near State Road 56 was carrying mail from the U.S. Postal Service. 

Debbie Fetterly, a USPS spokeswoman, says the truck was carrying magazines and third-class mail from Jacksonville to Tampa. Most of the mail was also advertisements, she added.

No First-Class Mail, bills, tax refund checks, personal letters, greeting cards or packages were on the truck, Fetterly said.

They are still deciding how they will let people know if their mail was on the truck and how to deliver any salvaged mail

Customers who believe they may have had mail on the postal truck in the accident may call the USPS Consumer Affairs Office at (813) 354-6265.

In other cases where mail has burned or been destroyed in a fire on a USPS vehicle, mail with any type of readable address has been attempted to be delivered and notices have been sent to those who may have been affected by the fire.
