Countdown to New Trash Pick-Up

County residents will switch to a new trash collection service in October.

In October, Hillsborough County will switch to an automated trash collection service.

Residents will no longer use their own garbage cans. Instead residents can expect to receive wheeled carts - a 95-gallon gray cart for garbage and a 65-gallon blue cart for recyclables. The carts should be delivered to unincorporated county residents' homes in August, according to the county. Pick-up dates may also change for some residents.

Patch has written about the change, and the county also has a website with facts about what residents can expect with automatic trash collection.

But to make sure the transition goes smoothly, county officials are offering to hold informational sessions for civic groups, homeowner associations and service groups through the summer.

To schedule a presentation call Kim Byer, manager of the new automated collection program, at 813-612-7718 or email her at byerk@hillsboroughcounty.org.

So what are your thoughts on the change to the new automated system? Are you excited or dreading it? Tell us in the comments.
