County Announces Neighborhood Mini-Grant Contest

Westchase was awarded a mini-grant last year, which they used for outdoor exercise equipment.

Communities can once again apply to receive $2,500 mini-grants for various neighborhood projects through the Hillsborough County’s Office of Neighborhood Relations mini-grant program.

Westchase was a recipient of one of the grants last year. The money was used toward the purchase of eight new pieces of TriActive Outdoor Fitness Equipment, which was installed at Baybridge Park.

The Westchase Community Association is considering applying for the county grant again this year, said Debbie Sainz, Senior Community Association Manager.

"It is something we'll definitely be looking into," Sainz said. "We're going through the process and looking at the application and seeing what we could use the money for."

Hillsborough County’s Office of Neighborhood Relations is accepting applications through Friday, Aug. 17, at 5 p.m. Applications for the mini-grants are available on the County’s website at www.hillsboroughcounty.org/onr/minigrant.

The mini-grants support community projects in the county's unincorporated neighborhoods. Previous grant-funded projects include shrub and flower planting, subdivision entrance signs, playground equipment, neighborhood festivals, crime watch programs, websites, newsletters, and education activities.

Applications will be reviewed by the Neighborhood Mini-Grant Evaluation Committee and approved by the Board of County Commissioners. Only one grant will be awarded per neighborhood association. Recipients will be notified by Nov. 30.
