Does Hilsborough County Need New Garbage Collection?

Is it time for new garbage service?

The Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners will review a bid for a new residential trash collection company on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The county's current contract with private companies expires on Sept. 30, 2013.

The workshop is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. in the County Commission boardroom, 2nd floor of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.

The public comment is not scheduled to be taken because the meeting is in a workshop format and is not a public hearing. Public input will be sought on various service options and pricing after the bids are opened and before new contracts are awarded.

So Westchase, what do you think? Do we need a new garbage collection company in our neighborhood?

I don't know about Westchase, but the garbage collection company in my area (Teakwood & Leisure - 33613) provides the worst service ever. They toss the trash containers all over so they roll in the street, they destroy the lids, and now, as of yesterday, two of the lids are gone! They also leave trash in containers. And then they have the nerve, at Christmas time, to leave a greeting card, hoping to collect tips. The service used to be okay, now it's gone to horrible. I'm not sure if it's the guys on the truck that have changed, or it's the company not monitoring the workers. The trash cans I purchase are $50 and up and are supposed to be unbreakable Rubbermaid brand--not so when they get through with them!
