Public Meeting To Discuss Replacement Of Memorial Highway Sewage Line

The Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department has scheduled a public meeting to discuss a project to replace a sewage pipeline along Memorial Highway in the Town ‘N Country area.

The $3 million project will construct approximately 8,000 feet of 16-inch, PVC sewage force main along Memorial, from just west of  Kelly Road, northwest to Lagoon Street near Hillsborough Avenue. The project also will reroute the existing pipeline on the north side of the Bay Crest Park neighborhood, and replace pumps in three sewage lift stations. Design work is 90 percent complete. Construction is anticipated to begin this fall and last nine months.

The new pipeline will replace a 14-inch, ductile iron pipeline that was constructed in the 1970s and has become unreliable. Although that pipeline was built to industry standards of the time, the ductile iron has reacted with underground clays, causing several breaks in the pipe. Its replacement is being funded through the Water Enterprise’s Capital Improvement Program.
