Mom Introduces Daughter to Political Process

A day home sick from school turned into a civic lesson for one Westchase youngster.

Danielle Hickey and her daughter exited the Countryway Swim and Tennis Center wearing "I Voted" stickers.

Hickey was really the only one who voted. Her daughter is a student at Westchase Elementary School who was home sick on Tuesday. She tagged along with mom to the polls.

While waiting to vote, Hickey's daughter noticed people on their cell phones and asked if people could be told who to vote for.

"They can tell you, but they can't force you," Hickey explained to her daughter.

It would be great if Disney Jr. or children's networks would introduce youngsters to the political process, she said.

As for Hickey, her vote went to Mitt Romney for his stance on the economy and international relations.

"Things are so divided right now," said the Westchase resident who recently moved to Florida from New Jersey. "I don't know if we can do four more years the way we are right now."
