Tampa International Airport Reports Growth

The airport has seen increased traffic and passengers since last year.

Despite a shaky economy the Tampa International Airport reported growth this year in traffic and passengers. The growth included these areas:

  • Traffic at Tampa International increased by 3.7 percent in May, buoyed by a 16.7 percent increase in international traffic.
  • Through May, TPA handled over 7.4 million passengers, a 1 percent.
  • Tampa visitor traffic increased by 4.4 percent in May compared to May 2010, following a 1.8 percent increase in April.

"We had a very strong May with our flights over 83 percent full, and we are projecting continued strong growth throughout the summer period," said Damian Brooke, TPA's vice president of
business planning.

These positive numbers are due in part to the strong performance of British Airways' daily service to London, and the new AirTran
and JetBlue services to San Juan, according to airport officials.
