Trash Pick-Up Changes For Business Owners

Hillsborough County's new trash service program extend to commercial businesses as well.

There's been a lot of talk about changes to residential trash pickup in Hillsborough County. But what about commercial trash pickup?

Commercial businesses that depend on Hillsborough County for trash pick-up will also be serviced by new companies.

Earlier this year, Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners awarded the new trash service contract to Republic Services of Florida, Waste Management Inc. of Florida, and Waste Services of Florida. The new agreements go into effect in October. All commercial customers who require garbage collection services must use one of these County-authorized providers, according to an announcement from the county.

Unlike residents, commercial business owners must complete and submit a Solid Waste Profile Form to the Public Utilities Department to receive trash pickup in October. The form can be found online at www.HillsboroughCounty.org/WasteProfileForm. A printed copy also is available from the Franchise Collectors.

Commercial customers are not required to stay with the same vendor who is currently providing them garbage collection service. Businesses can compare the rates and agreements of the three services and make a choice.

Here is contact information for the three services:
• Republic Services of Florida: 813-265-0292
• Waste Management Inc. of Florida: 813-621-3053
• Waste Services of Florida: 813-248-3802

For more information about the new trash services visit www.HillsboroughCounty.org/TalkTrash or call Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department Customer Service at 813-272-5680.
